RS Group have been supporting RWE’s London Array offshore wind farm since its construction in 2013. London Array consists of 175 Siemens Gamesa 3.6MW turbines, generating enough electricity to power over 584,000 UK Homes*.
Earlier this year the RS Renewables team, South-East sales team & RS local Bermondsey collaborated as one team by identifying, building, proposing and closing an opportunity for 30 bespoke wind technician tool kits, totalling £46,776.
Within the kits there are 28 essential tools that RWE’s technicians require to effectively perform their duties whilst operating offshore. We had to accommodate weight restrictions, sizing restrictions and durability requirements for all the kits. Whilst building a solution that reduced tool theft and held technicians accountable for their own kits.
To support with this, we had enlisted an external supplier; Tool Cal. Tool Cal built foam cut outs into each case to keep the weight low and tools secure in transport, we worked with RWE to ensure the sizing and weight of the case met their requirements. Tool Cal also laser etched all tools and cases with a unique identifying number assigned to a technician to increase accountability and reduce the risk of theft.
There are 8 remaining 3.6MW offshore wind farms in the UK, which we hope to propose this solution to going forward.
