Acetal or polyacetal is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic and is a member of the family of plastics called polyoxymethylene (POM). This POM-C acetal is an unfilled POM copolymer which, due to its high crystallinity, is especially tough with good chemical resistance. This type of acetal also offers high mechanical strength and rigidity, excellent wear, low moisture absorption and excellent dimensional stability. Acetal also has good sliding properties, it is slippy, this means that components made from acetal slide very easily and don’t stick or lock up. This is an essential quality when this plastic is used in delicate or fine instruments where smooth operation is essential and in gears and bearings.
