The IPS (Intelligent Power Switch) is a great problem solver.


Intelligent power switches are largely used in the automotive for a variety of jobs. They also play a big role in the “Smart Home” products. An Intelligent power switch makes everything simpler by combining more than one job, into a single process. Not to mention they are applied in PAC (Programmable Automation Controller), CNC (Computer Numerical Control) & PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), robotics, agricultural systems, security systems & used in green energy, like wind turbines!


Features of an IPS (Intelligent Power Switch)


IPS’s have multifunction’s that include better power saving and power utilization in the field of use. They also include great features like being able to deal with ground loss or offset, voltage peaks and reversal or disconnected battery. The intelligent power switch device can also integrate logic interface, drivers and diagnostic and protection features. They even have the capacity to deal with overcurrent and overloads. A variety of chips are also ESD protected.


The main benefits of using an IPS rather than a conventional chip would be increased system reliability, lots more compactness, great built-in protection and overall cost reduction. We have a variety of intelligent power switches for a high side or low side system. High side switches are great for use in inductive, capacitive and resistive loads.


In the intelligent power switch lays an embedded MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) which is positioned between the VCC and the OUT pins. Intelligent power switches can vary with operating voltage and depending on the chip, can range from 85v - 265v or 16v-85v.


With most electronics, thermal heat can be a problem, but with an intelligent power switch, it’s not so much a problem. With lots of switches containing overtemperature protection and some switches even being able to handle harsh temperatures such as -40 to +150°C.
