Because it’s backwards compatible with DVI-D and DVI-I signals, you can also use it to connect DVI source devices, like laptop/ desktop to HDTV and displays with HDMI interface at high definition.

Before HDMI, connections for high-density HD TV were limited to either through DVI (Digital Video Interface which was developed for computer monitors) or component video. Component video uses three separate video cables and two audio cables, all of which are included in the HDMI interface.

There are no HDMI cables which are standard enough to work for every purpose. The HDMI specification makes provisions for a number of different cable types and a number of different connectors.

For devices with a HDMI port, the connection is simply connecting an HDMI cable. However, a number of accessories are available to help customize HDMI connectivity to meet special specifications with HDMI adapters, for better quality connection its best to use gold-plated connectors.
