New industrial networking technology from RS Components supports transition to Industry 4.0

Latest INSYS icom routers and fault monitors feature secure remote connectivity via LAN, Wi-Fi, 3G/4G

Taiwan, 19 May 2015:

RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the global distributor for engineers, has added the latest INSYS icom industrial routers and fault monitors to its industrial networking portfolio, introducing advanced features for monitoring, managing and maintaining networked equipment securely and remotely using a PC or mobile.

Conceived for the Industry 4.0 age, the new tech supports high-speed connections to devices like sensors, controllers and data loggers in applications ranging from factory automation and process control to smart buildings, energy management, transportation and e-mobility.

There are five new routers offering a choice of wired or wireless cloud connectivity, with integrated security such as firewall and VPN via OpenVPN and IPsec. The routers also support local or remote updating of firmware and configuration, including daily auto-update capability. The EBW-E100 LAN-to-LAN router is ideal for decoupling remotely-accessible manufacturing cells from a corporate IT network, and is easy to integrate with a VPN. The EBW-L100 4G/LTE router is ideal for applications requiring broadband cellular connectivity, such as video surveillance. The EBW-H100 with integrated 3G modem and the EBW-WH100 supporting both WLAN and 3G connectivity complete the range of EBW routers now available at RS.

The new IMO-1 and IMO-2 fault monitors connect to sensors, measuring devices or controllers, and automatically dispatch SMS messages or emails via GPRS when thresholds are exceeded. The messages are configurable and can also contain the actual monitored values of digital and analogue devices. IMO-2 has Ethernet and Modbus gateways, while IMO-1 has an additional port for connecting to Siemens LOGO!™ microcontrollers. IMO-1 supports all Siemens LOGO! objects such as I/Os, flags and keys, thereby enabling any of these events to trigger actions.

The IMO-1 KIT is also available, and combines the IMO-1 fault monitor with a magnetic foot antenna and Siemens LOGO! adapter cable as a convenient ready-to-use package.
