How do single line phones work?

In a typical household setting, most people will have a single telephone line. When someone calls, the phone rings and you can pick up the call. Some homes or offices will have a single telephone line, connected to several outlets so when a call comes in you can pick the call upon any of them. Single line phones are designed for simple connections required in home settings and small businesses.

Single line phones usually come with a variety of features like answering machine, speakerphone, nuisance call blocker, call recording, phonebook, conference calling, call waiting and caller ID, alarm.

Single line phones come in two main versions:

  • Corded phones are 2 parts telephone, a base station and a handset connected with a cord. A benefit over the cordless phone is a handset that doesn't need a battery charging.
  • Cordless Phones are two or more parts systems. A telephone base station that is also a charging station for a cordless handset. One base can be integrated with several cordless handsets that can be located around the house or office for extra ease of use. Talk time over the rechargeable handset is restricted due to a battery level. However, most of the handsets offer a talk time longer than 15 hours and 200 hours standby time per one charge.
